Since 2023, Berkala Penelitian Hayati (p-ISSN: 0852-6834 and e-ISSN: 2337-389X) is published three times (April, August, and December). It is an international peer-reviewed, open-access life science journal. The journal was published by The East Java Biological Society and formerly used the Indonesian language. The first edition of this journal is Vol 1 No 1 in June 1995. It was accredited by the Ministry of Culture and Education number 134/DIKTI/Kep/2001 till 2011 and has been re-accredited for 26 April 2017 - 26 April 2022 by the Ministry of Research and Higher Education number 32a/E/KPT/2017. It continues recorded by Zoological Record by Thomson Reuters Clarivate Analytics since 2011.

In April 2012, the journal was changed to English. This journal is indexed by DOAJ, Crossref, Google Scholar, Academia.edu, and EBSCO Host. This journal publishes original research, applied, review articles, and educational articles in all areas of biology. Authors are encouraged to submit complete unpublished and original works that are not under review in other journals.
